10. Related Documentation
10.1 Declaration of Performance – “Door Hinges Type KL”
1. Application
1.1 Door hinges type KL 0 to KL 6 and their variants (hereinafter referred to as "door hinges") are designed for use with various types of door and gate leaves, which may be installed in both interior and exterior applications.
1.2 A complete overview of hinge variants is provided in Appendix 1 – Catalogue of Types.
1.3 The hinges described in 1.1 allow for adjustment:
a) In the horizontal plane (range 0 to 3 mm per 360º turn),
b) In the vertical axis by varying the height of sliding covers during installation.
1.4 The hinges comply in their design with the requirements specified in Annex III, Section 2 of Council Directive 89/106/EEC and Czech Government Regulation No. 190/2002 Coll., as amended.
2. Description
2.1 The door hinges consist of universal components that can be combined to form the different hinge variants listed in section 1.1, including four types of mounting described in 2.2.
2.2 Based on their design, the hinges are delivered in several mounting alternatives – see table in section 6.1.
3. Installation
3.1 Hinges are supplied as either right-hand or left-hand versions.
3.2 The orientation (right or left) can be changed as needed by loosening the adjustment screws (4) and inserting the pin (6) into the opposite side of the upper hinge body (3).
3.3 The assembled hinge is placed onto the door leaf and frame, and both bodies (3) and (10) are either welded at point (9) or screwed in place using screws (5).
– For mounting into closed profiles, a threaded backing plate (see diagram 6.2) can be supplied. This plate is positioned using a suitable adapter (e.g. compressed tube), latched behind a spring bracket, and slid into place with pre-drilled holes.
– In hard-to-access areas, the door manufacturer must choose an alternative method of screwing the hinge into place.
⚠️ Note: The hinge is specific in that the pin is fixed in the upper body and points downward! The sliding washer (7) must be installed as shown in the hinge assembly diagram. In versions with sliding bushing (13), the washer (7) is integrated with the bushing (8).
3.4 After completing steps 3.1 to 3.3, check the proper vertical function of the hinge and verify the clearance between the door leaf and the frame. If needed, adjust using adjustment screws (4).
– The hinges allow ±1.5 mm adjustment in two directions (total ±3 mm).
– Vertical adjustment is done by using sliding covers of various heights. The standard height is 3 mm, but covers up to 8 mm are available on request.
3.5 Finally, close the upper and lower bodies with plastic hole plugs (2) and (12) and snap on the stainless steel covers (1) and (11).
6. Design Variants
6.1 Mounting Type and Method
Hinges can be mounted either by welding or using screws, according to the following variants:
Type | Mounting Method |
---|---|
KL x1 | Door leaf and frame – welded |
KL x2 | Door leaf and frame – screwed |
KL x3 | Door leaf – screwed, frame – welded |
KL x4 | Door leaf – welded, frame – screwed |
6.2 Recessing Options
⚠️ Custom recessing options must be discussed in advance with the manufacturer or supplier.
6.3 Surface Finish and Material
⚠️ Any custom surface finishes must be agreed upon in advance with the manufacturer or supplier.
All hinge types are available in any of the above variants.
7. Marking
Each delivery is packed in boxes labeled with the following information:
4. Maintenance
The hinges are designed to be maintenance-free. Due to the use of self-lubricating sliding components, the manufacturer does not require lubrication during the product’s lifetime.
However, in case of significantly impaired door movement (e.g. due to dusty environments), lubrication is recommended. It is important to regularly check the hinge for increased play or sagging of the door leaf, and correct these issues promptly.
Possible causes of door sagging or increased hinge play:
The hinge pin and bushings are replaceable and meet the durability requirements stated in section 1.3 of this manual. When worn, these components must be replaced in time to restore full hinge functionality.
If the hinge body is not damaged, the product has an unlimited service life.
5. Technical Specification – Load Capacity
5.1 The relationship between the maximum door leaf weight and its width is shown in the chart below. This graph also indicates the correct number of hinges and their recommended positioning on the door leaf.
5.2 In cases where a third or fourth hinge is not strictly required based on weight or width, we still recommend considering additional hinges depending on the height and construction of the door leaf – to prevent potential warping or sealing issues.
